Traditional Pressure-Treated Decks
Ben Hill Renovations is your Villa Rica deck company and specializes in installing and finishing traditional pressure-treated wood decks! Pressure-treated wood can last up to 15 years and is the least expensive and most common type of decking. Unfortunately, most pressure-treated wood is made from Southern yellow pine, which is quick to splinter when it’s not maintained.
Pressure-treated wood is infused with a variety of preservative chemicals to prevent rot and insect infestation in exterior applications like decks. The treatment process involves placing a large stack of lumber in a huge cylindrical chamber called a “retort” with an airtight door and then forcing waterborne chemicals into the wood under pressure. Pressure treated lumber is ideal for your deck as it has a long, useful life span and is much less expensive than alternatives.
Wood is the original and, by far, most common decking choice. Natural wood is strong and feels good under bare feet. But it also requires cleaning and frequently rots, splinters, and warps. Even though all wood naturally weathers to a gray color, it should be cleaned and re-stained every two to three years to keep it looking its best.
If you are concerned with economy and longevity, then Ben Hill Renovations, your Villa Rica deck company, recommends pressure-treated wood. It’s stainable, durable enough to resist abuse, and can come with a limited, lifetime warranty.
The main disadvantage of pressure-treated decking is that because it"s cut from pine, it"s not very dimensionally stable. It has a tendency to swell, crack, split, and warp. When wet, it"s surprisingly heavy. Pressure-treated decking requires routine maintenance too, including an annual power washing and an application of stain or clear wood preservative every two or three years.
